WORKSHOPS

Susan Niebur has led multiple workshops on proposal writing for the new scientist. While at NASA, she co-led workshops with Dr. Michael New, who succeeded her as Discovery Program Scientist, and Dr. Curt Niebur, Outer Planets Program Scientist, creating the Early Career Workshops so popular at the annual Lunar and Planetary Science Conference and the American Astronomical Society's Division of Planetary Science Conference. Now that she is no longer employed by NASA, she is able to teach university, departmental, or industry groups the art of science proposal writing for NASA Research Announcements and Outreach and Education Supplements.

The workshops are organized along two main principles:

1. The clearer the proposal, the easier it is to understand and engage with the science proposed; and

2. It is the proposer's responsibility to make the reviewer want to recommend the proposal for funding.

Susan has also planned workshops with emphasis on early career preparation and composing a mission team.

Each year, Susan leads networking activities at the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference. The networking events in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were great succeses, with over a hundred attendees each year.
